The Taskmaster: Black Widow Villain Explained! Why He Is Impossible To Defeat?

The Black Widow movie releasing in July 2021 is going to pack some interesting surprises. From covering three phases of Natasha's life to telling us more about the next major theme in the MCU.

Even though the Black Widow movie is a prequel it is going to pack some information that will change our perspective on the past MCU events, as confirmed by Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios. One of the many interesting things about the movie is its villain. The Taskmaster. So today we are going to discuss his powers and abilities. And answer a few questions like who is he? And what makes him the perfect choice as the Black Widow villain? So let's get started. What makes Taskmaster a worthy Black Widow villain is the fact that he once took on the Avengers and almost defeated them all. Yes, that's right. He took on the team that consisted of Iron Man and Captain America and still managed to get an upper hand. So, what makes Taskmaster such a formidable foe? And what are his superpowers? Well, Taskmaster is one of a kind of villain.

He is a mercenary just like Deadpool, in other words, he is often hired by some major supervillains to carry out their dirty work. And Taskmaster is very efficient and competent in carrying out those missions thanks to his photographic reflexes. He can copy and emulate the moves and techniques of any given person by just watching them once. And the more he observes, the more he learns and as a result more dangerous he becomes. What is even more interesting about his photographic reflexes is the fact that he can't only copy moves but can also predict the next moves in given circumstances. So, it's a bit like that scene from Captain America Civil War, where Tony Stark asks his AI assistant, FRIDAY, to analyze Captain America's fighting style.

Once that analysis was complete Tony was able to beat Captain America in hand-to-hand combat, which in itself is an incredible thing. Since Cap is known for his hand-to-hand combat skills. But even Cap had a hard time fighting the Taskmaster in the comics. Since Taskmaster had studied Cap's each and every move and thus he had no problem predicting what Cap would do next.

Over the years Taskmaster has studied many fighting techniques and the fact that he can learn almost instantaneously makes the learning process much simpler and more fun. It reminds me of the movie Matrix, where one can just load Kung Fu and Karate in his or her brain as if they are installing software on the PC. But Taskmaster takes the thing to another level. As he doesn't need to plug some wire in his brain. All he needs is to see that technique being performed. It doesn't matter if he sees those in real life or in some TV footage. And in his long career as a mercenary, he has studied most of the heroes because of which the Avengers often find him a very difficult foe to defeat. Most of the time it is often the new guy that beats Taskmaster. As he never had the time to study their moves and thus he can't predict and emulate those techniques. But that said. There is one fella who has managed to defeat Taskmaster on multiple occasions. And he is none other than Deadpool. The reason that Deadpool has been so successful against Taskmaster is that he is so crazy that it is almost impossible to predict his next moves. However, not everyone is Deadpool crazy. And thus Taskmaster has cent percent track record of predicting the next attacks of given heroes after studying them thoroughly, which for him hardly takes more than a few hours.

The best example of his photographic reflexes is that time when he was in high school. One day he saw some Pro American football on TV. And even though he had never played football before in his life. After watching this one match he went on to become the star footballer of his school.

In his early life, he often used these special superpowers of his for some petty personal gains. But at one point he considered becoming a crime fighter just like Batman. However, he finally decides to be a professional criminal as he found the crime world to be more profitable and rewarding. And ever since Taskmaster has worked as a mercenary.

At one point he even starts a training school for the villains, where he trained the henchmen and cannon fodder for major Marvel villains. He even trains some special soldiers who were

meant to take down just one superhero-like Captain America and Hawkeye. These special soldiers were trained to know the heroes fighting style so that they could exploit their vulnerabilities just like Taskmaster. Two of his famous students are Crossbones and Cutthroat.

Over the years, Taskmaster has even worked undercover, impersonating certain heroes. Since he can mimic the movement and even voice of a given person.

He is a natural spy. So, I guess Skrulls have some tough competition from Taskmaster for the position of finest super-spy. But that said, Taskmaster, is just a mere mortal. He has no super strength and super stamina. In that regard, he is just like Black Widow. So, even though he can copy Captain America's punches, those punches would not do the same damage. And since he relies heavily on pre-studying the moves of his opponents. It is easy to catch him off guard with some new move that Taskmaster has never seen the opponent perform before. So, Taskmaster needs his prep time against an opponent to absolutely dominate him, as he needs to be well versed in all of his opponent's attacking styles.

However, even if he faces someone totally new. He can hold his ground on his own thanks to his arsenal of weapons and numerous fighting techniques.

Although Taskmaster is primarily the villain in most of the stories, at times he has been hired by the US army to train soldiers. And during the Civil War storyline, he was hired by the US government to track down the Secret Avengers, the group of heroes who were against what is called the comics version of MCU's Sokovia Accords.

Later on in the comics, it was revealed that the original name of Taskmaster might have been Tony Masters, who was a SHIELD agent who injected himself with the super serum

that greatly boosted his short-term memory. This boost-up helped him with better photographic reflexes.

But it came at a cost. He slowly lost his long-term memories. He forgot his earlier life, his family, and his children. All that he remembered was the fighting techniques of his various opponents and the more he learns about these fighting techniques the more, he loses his personal memories.

So, I guess he has a tragic story of his own. This makes you wonder why does he do what he does when it comes at such a personal cost! So, there is no doubt that Taskmaster is a
complicated villain.

Let's see how the Black Widow movie deals with the character. Will he be a hired mercenary sent to kill Black Widow by the Russian KBG, since Black Widow defected and betrayed them by joining the SHIELD? Or Will he be acting on his own?
